Personal Injury Lawyer Hal Friedman Interviewed for WKYT Investigation on Special Deputies in Kentucky

Written by Cooper & Friedman PLLC on December 9, 2015

JACKSON, Ky. (WKYT) – WKYT journalists recently did a program investigating the training of special deputies in the state of Kentucky. While most of Kentucky’s law enforcement officers receive training in Richmond Kentucky at the Department of Criminal Justice Training Center, special deputies are different. They are appointed by a county sheriff and sworn into their positions. According to statute, they are not allowed to receive payment and they are not required to get trained before they are allowed to serve.

Louisville personal injury attorney Hal Friedman was interviewed for the story based on his experience representing Christopher Brewer in 2010 in a case that involved the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.

Part of the recent WKYT investigation focused on Breathitt County, which has a population of about 14,000 people and even special deputies. For all the specifics including the entire story, watch the video above, or visit the WKYT website.
